Choosing a school is never just about academics, it’s about finding a place where your child can feel inspired, supported, and prepared for the future. For families living in Bali, or those preparing to relocate, an exciting new opportunity is on the horizon.
Opening its doors on 1st September 2025, The British School of Bali will bring a world-class British education to the cultural heart of the island, offering an exceptional blend of academic excellence, emotional well-being, and a rich, holistic curriculum.

A Vision Born from Experience and Passion
At the heart of The British School of Bali’s mission is a belief that families should never have to choose between rigorous academic standards and a nurturing, well-rounded approach to personal growth.
To hear more about this vision directly from the Headmaster himself, watch our exclusive Live Interview with Raymond Finch. In this conversation with Simone from Our Year in Bali, Raymond shares his background, the school’s philosophy, the British National Curriculum, and what day-to-day life at BSB will look like. It’s the perfect way to get a first-hand feel for what makes this school unique.
Led by The Schools Trust, a UK-based not-for-profit foundation that has already established 17 of the world’s leading British international schools, the new school will bring decades of expertise to Bali. This is the same team behind renowned institutions such as The British School of Lisbon, The British School of Vilnius, Virtus College Madrid, and The Independent School of Jakarta.
From the very start, the vision has been clear: “Create a school where every child feels seen, supported, and challenged, and where their unique talents are nurtured to prepare them for a global future.”
A Location That Inspires Learning
Nestled within the prestigious Onyx Park Resort in northern Ubud, The British School of Bali enjoys a truly unique location. The resort’s outstanding facilities extend far beyond what most schools can offer:
- Seven high-end restaurants, including one dedicated to providing nutritious daily meals for students
- Multiple swimming pools, perfect for PE and aquatic learning
- A dedicated gymnastics suite and ninja gym for developing agility, balance, and coordination
- Purpose-built playgrounds for safe and engaging outdoor play
- Sports Areas for football, basketball, and other team sports
- A 400-seat auditorium for performances, assemblies, and special events
While the location offers resort-style luxury, the school warmly welcomes families from across the island, not just those who live within the complex.
More Than a Primary School – A Growing Future
The first phase of the school will cater to children aged 2 to 11 years (Pre-Nursery to Year 6). In April 2026, the school will open a purpose-built facility, followed by the launch of its Secondary School (Year 7 and above) in September 2026.
This growth is carefully planned to ensure each stage maintains the school’s high standards, intimate learning environment, and strong sense of community.

Meet the Exceptional Educators
The British School of Bali’s teaching team combines world-class qualifications with a genuine passion for nurturing each student’s potential. Every educator is both a subject expert and a mentor, fostering academic excellence alongside emotional intelligence, creativity, and critical thinking. Supported by continuous professional development and a culture of collaboration, they create an inspiring learning environment where every child is encouraged to thrive.
Raymond Finch – Headmaster
With years of experience leading British international schools worldwide, Raymond brings both strategic vision and a warm, approachable leadership style. His philosophy centres on the belief that emotional intelligence is just as critical as academic success, a principle he explores in his piece Why Emotions Matter.
Grace Thorne – Primary Teacher & PE Specialist
Grace’s dual passion for literacy and physical development makes her classes dynamic and engaging. Her approach blends movement with learning, ensuring students stay active while building key academic skills.
Megan Hollingshead – Primary Teacher & Music Specialist
Megan infuses every lesson with creativity, using music as a tool to deepen understanding across the curriculum. She leads the school’s music programme with an emphasis on both performance and self-expression.
Sarah Seager – Early Years Teacher
With a gentle yet inspiring approach, Sarah nurtures curiosity in the youngest learners, creating a joyful foundation for lifelong learning.
Every teacher at BSB is supported with ongoing professional development and proactive performance management to ensure exceptional outcomes for every child.
Learning Beyond the Textbook – The RULER Approach
Academic excellence is paired with Social Emotional Learning through the RULER approach, developed at Yale University’s Center for Emotional Intelligence.
Through RULER, students learn to:
- Recognise emotions in themselves and others
- Understand the causes and consequences of emotions
- Label emotions accurately
- Express emotions appropriately
- Regulate emotions effectively
The result is not only stronger relationships and improved learning outcomes but also lifelong skills that prepare students for challenges beyond the classroom.
A Curriculum That Sparks Curiosity
The British School of Bali offers an adapted English National Curriculum that blends academic excellence with creativity, innovation, and global awareness. Core subjects are complemented by STEAM, languages, and the arts, fostering critical thinking, digital skills, and cultural understanding. This balanced approach equips students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to thrive in an ever-changing world.

A Place Where Children Can Truly Thrive
The British School of Bali is more than just a school—it’s a community built on the belief that education should ignite curiosity, nurture confidence, and inspire a love for learning.
With its stunning location, outstanding facilities, and dedicated educators, BSB is set to become a cornerstone of international education in Bali, attracting families who want the very best for their children.
