Meet Veruschka, the warm and inspiring founder of the Moms in Bali Facebook group and community app—a go-to support network for thousands of families navigating life on the Island of the Gods. Originally from Indonesia but raised in Europe, Veruschka blends a global perspective with deep local insight. With over two decades of experience in fashion retail and a heartfelt pivot to community building after becoming a mother, she’s created a platform that connects, informs, and uplifts moms living in or moving to Bali. In this interview, Veruschka shares her personal journey, what drew her to Canggu, and how Moms in Bali evolved into a trusted hub for expat families seeking connection and guidance in paradise.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself and where you’re originally from?
I’m Veruschka, originally from Indonesia but I spent much of my life growing up in Europe. I’m married to a Scottish husband, and together we’re raising our two daughters—both born here in Bali. My background is in fashion retail, where I spent over 20 years in brand management and operations. After becoming a mom, I shifted focus toward community building, which led me to start Moms in Bali.

When did you first arrive in Bali, and do you see yourself staying long term?
I moved to Bali over 8 years ago. At first, it wasn’t a long-term plan, but the island has a magical way of turning short stays into permanent ones. Now, with kids, work, and a strong community here, it feels very much like home.
What inspired your move to Bali?
After years of working in high-paced fashion retail, I was craving a slower, more intentional lifestyle. Bali offered that balance—beautiful nature, a great environment for raising kids, and space to create something meaningful beyond the corporate world.

Where in Bali have you chosen to live, and why?
We live in Canggu. It has that perfect blend of community, international schools, family-friendly cafés, and beachside living. It’s evolved a lot over the years, but it still gives us the lifestyle we love—laid-back yet connected.
How has living in Bali impacted your personal life and professional journey?
Living in Bali gave me the space to reinvent myself. It opened doors to community building and entrepreneurship. Moms in Bali was born out of a need I felt personally—craving connection as a new mom. The platform has grown beyond my expectations, and it’s helped me combine purpose with passion.
Moms in Bali has become a valuable hub for families.
Absolutely. Moms in Bali is more than just a platform—it’s a safe space where mothers connect, ask questions, support each other, and find local businesses offering relevant services.
Through our Moms in Bali community app on Circle and social platforms, we provide trusted recommendations, host events, and offer exclusive deals, helping families feel supported and informed during their Bali journey.

Your kids attend Canggu Community School—what’s that experience been like?
We’ve had a really positive experience. The school offers a nurturing environment, strong academics, and a great sense of community. It’s wonderful seeing our girls thrive socially and academically while being exposed to such a diverse international environment.

Did you have any misconceptions about Bali before arriving?
Initially, I worried about healthcare, education, and whether we’d find a solid community. But Bali has exceeded those expectations—there are excellent schools, modern hospitals, and an incredible network of families. The sense of community here is unlike anywhere else.
What’s your top piece of advice for families thinking about relocating to Bali?
Connect with other families before you move—especially through community groups like Moms in Bali. Also, do a trial run if you can. It helps to explore neighborhoods, schools, and logistics before fully committing. And most importantly, stay flexible—Bali will challenge and reward you in equal measure.

Is there anything else you’d love to share about your Bali journey?
Living in Bali has taught me to live more intentionally and lean into community. It’s not always paradise—it comes with its challenges—but if you embrace the lifestyle and connect with the right people, it can be one of the most enriching decisions for your family.
